Chittenden County Democrats kicked off the 2008 general election campaign with a rally at UVM's Billings Student Center four days after the primary election. The rally was billed as a fundraiser for Democratic legislative candidates in the county. Congressman Peter Welch and Speaker of the House and gubernatorial candidate Gaye Symington were the headliners at the event. Also speaking were Lieutenant Governor candidate Tom Costello and Secretary of State Deb Markowitz. Around 100 people attended the event held in one of UVM's oldest halls.
